About Us

Vanguard Publications is the collaboration of Merle Thorpe and Myles Friedman located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Founded in 1988, Vanguard publishes magazines and posters on sports and historical subjects.

For many years, Vanguard has published the definitive guide to spring training baseball for fans traveling to Arizona and Florida for exhibition baseball. Beginning in 1991 with its History of baseball in the Major Leagues, Vanguard has published a series of historical wall charts including the History of the NFL (1992), the History of World Cup Soccer (1994), the History of World War II (1995), the History of Golf (1997) and the History of the Civil War (2012).
